Burberry AW2011
I really do feel that the level of execution was on par with the Alexander McQueen-Kate Moss holograph.

None of my friends seem to be able to answer my summer-long question, since they are all moving on to art college and in art college textbooks aren't required, "do I need a backpack for school?" I'll be moving into my dorm next week, and at this point, I am 80 percent sure that I will be need a backpack or just a bag sturdy and large enough to withstand the weight of my books. I've always been very against using backpacks. Most of the time, I feel they just look too elementary. However, once I factor in the health of my back and the limited options, I always end up using one anyway. Every time, I reach for the most rugged one I can find. During my senior year, I used this army green with a brown suede bottom Timberland backpack. My mom found it at a yard sale for five dollars. Heck of a deal, right? Years before, I used a color-blocked deep blue and white, square-ish backpack and Jansport army green one. All in all, backpacks are pretty dependable and come in abundance, but I really would like that to change in college.
I've been looking for medium sized leather shopping bags and these by Cast of Vices are beyond perfect. Best of all, they totally represent New York City. It would be like having a piece of home when I'm away at college. The big downside is the hefty price tag of $255-265. Maybe I should keep my eyes peeled for something price appropriate.

I'm usually not a fan of braids, but when it starts resembling food I fall in love. See what I mean?
Kudos Balenciaga. The chunky leather braids and asymmetrical trousers really hit the spot.

The first thing that caught my eye was those beautiful, sparkly shoes. After taking a closer look, I was even more in love. I just love how sinuous, and not severe, the lines are. I feel the only think I didn't like about the collection was the shoulder pads. Don't get me wrong, I love the padding of the shoulders. I grew up trying on my mom's 80s and 90s blazers that seriously accentuate the shoulders, but I just felt these shoulder pads were just too intense. It made the models appear top heavy. If it did that to models, can you imagine the damage it would do to your average Jane???? Though not practical, I do admire the structural aspect of it all. It is still quite beautiful.
I'm so head-over-heels for these two looks.

INTRO 1: Stella McCartney
I know I missed out on the whole introduction to spring/summer collections, but I feel I have to do them anyway. I love making collages. It always makes you wonder what was on the designer's inspiration boards when they created all this pizazz.
Starting my five part introduction is Stella McCartney. I loved her denim garb, but these nutritious prints blew my mind.

Flying Squirrels
Last September, I did a post on Ashburn Eng's collaboration with Max.Tan, which was an beautiful collection. Eng also has his own brand called Young&Restless. They recently sent me their S/S 2011 lookbook. This time around the collection is titled The Flying Squirrel. That title raises lots of questions and stirs a lot of confusion for me. According to Ashburn Eng, the collection was based off the concept of "a flying squirrel landing in an urban cityscape...[he] worked with simple geometrical shapes which took cues off modern architectures."
I'm still confused as to where Eng came up with flying squirrels, not there there is anything wrong with them. Just look at how cute widdle guys are!
